Paper for Shoji, tearproof

Tear-resistant paper

The tear-resistant and partly wipeable special paper with plastic reinforcement is suitable for increased requirements.

These varieties are fixed with double-sided transparent adhesive tape.

In Japan it is still common to change the paper of the Shoji at the New Year celebration because it has often been damaged during the year or has become unattractive.
In order to prevent the Shoji Gami from tearing and thus the need for renewal, various papers have been developed which have become highly tear-resistant or tear-resistant by incorporating long polyethylene fibres or an intermediate layer of PET interlayer.
These are also becoming more and more popular in Japan, as social structures have undergone strong changes in recent decades, resulting in a changed family life and less time available to people.

The aesthetics have been greatly changed by interlayer, coating or thickness, but everyone can weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of each type of paper.
Another aspect is also the place and use of the Shoji Gami, e.g. windows, room dividers, cabinet doors, lamps, artwork design....
