tea/water container

Important in the tea ceremony are water containers (mizusashi) and tea caddies (chaire and netsume).
The size and shape of these vessels are largely determined by tradition, but Japanese craftsmen still manage to create unique pieces through small deviations or new interpretations. Mizusahi and Chaire are usually made of ceramics, which are shaped, clay, glazed and finally fired to create distinctive pieces.
Netsume, made of wood with a Urushi surface, and Maki-E impress with their lightness, perfect manufacture and feel.
Today there are also netsumes made of plastic, which are cheap to produce, but are just an industrial product with no character.
