japanese room design with washi paper in berlin
room 9 – private home in berlin
a japanese-style room featuring window shoji, fusuma, tatami, japanese wooden seats, a decorative alcove, heater covers, and a ceiling lamp. except for the uncovered ceiling, the room in this modern house was designed entirely in the traditional japanese style. tatami mats, shoji in front of the windows, and fusuma as entrance doors and in front of built-in wardrobes.
a hazelwood trunk from our own "production" serves as the tokobashira beside the decorative alcove. the radiators were, of course, custom covered. the walls were given a special sand-textured paint finish in "green tea green" to replicate the effect of traditional japanese clay plaster.
