the construction of japanese rooms is a complex subject that becomes increasingly fascinating the more one engages with it.
most forms and dimensions follow a specific framework, having been refined over centuries and passed down through generations.
the result is spaces that radiate tranquility and harmony. although their meaning may not always be immediately clear to us, we as europeans are also captivated by their understated beauty. simple yet rich in detail, embodying perfect craftsmanship and carefully selected materials...
i strive to bring these ideals closer through my work and have had the opportunity to realize several larger projects in this spirit. but even smaller design elements and sections play an important role. depending on the situation, appealing and practical solutions can almost always be found.
a fully traditional room is not just composed of shoji, fusuma, and tatami. elements such as tokobashira (naturally shaped wooden pillars), tokonoma (decorative alcoves), ranma (transom panels), and more are also essential.
for all these elements, i uphold the highest standards of precision and expert craftsmanship. most importantly, through the careful selection of suitable wood materials, i can guarantee that there will be no functional impairments.
