Obi
Obi, a textile work of art. Variants range from simple everyday obi—chuya-obi—to the much-admired and prized maru-obi, the festive obi. The latter are often grand artworks crafted only from the finest materials, with high-quality silks and brocades as standard.
Artfully embroidered, the motifs follow the seasons—birds, floral patterns, and many more—a feast for the eyes.
The obi forms a harmonious unity with the kimono.
These belts are available not only for women but also for men. Men’s obi are usually one- or two-toned and plain, and significantly narrower.
Women’s obi typically measure about 3.5–4 meters in length and 60 cm in width (folded lengthwise) or about 30 cm. There are also narrower variants, including those combining a wide and a narrow section, such as the Nagoya obi.
Of course, obi that we’ve brought back from our travels are not to be missed.
