Chagama/Furo

Heavy and high-quality Chagama 茶釜 are cast iron kettles,
the lids are made of bronze, the knob is usually modeled on the chrysanthemum (Kiku 菊). Since this is perforated, the heat is not conducted and it is therefore possible to touch it without burning your fingers.
On the sides of the Chagama there are two holders for the hooks with which the hot cauldron can be removed from the fire.

These often take the form of a stylized dragon or bamboo. The spiral-shaped metal hooks "kan" 鐶 are threaded through the holes.
The "Kan" is also available in many different versions. Very high prices were demanded and paid for a pair made by a famous master.

The braziers, called furo 風炉, are portable and used in the warmer seasons to heat the water for tea.
Furo are made of either bronze or cast iron.
For storage during the cold season, there are usually storage boxes made of cedar or paulownia wood.
